I joined Illinois Group Psychotherapy Society (renamed Great Lakes Group Psychotherapy Society in 2020) in the Spring of 2016, while still a graduate student in Clinical Psychology. I joined after attending an All-Institute conference at the recommendation of my graduate program’s Group Counseling professor and a fellow student. I gladly signed up for the Mindfulness module for the chance to participate in an experiential group process with seasoned clinicians, James O’Keefe and Sarah Kallick. What an honor that I had the opportunity to be in their group as my first exposure to then IGPS. From there, I was hooked and wanted to become more involved in the organization. I joined the Programming &Training Committee in 2016 where I enjoyed arranging events that served to introduce various group facilitation ideas and keep our knowledge base fresh. During my time as a Board member, I got to help shape the direction of the organization in collaboration with an amazing, intelligent, compassionate group of clinicians. I have enjoyed making new friends and meeting other mental health professionals that I would otherwise not have had the opportunity to meet without GLGPS’s programming.
